The ESP Middle Leader Development Programme (MLDP)

The ESP MLDP Programme provides schools with support for a cohort of their middle and emerging leaders.

MLDP runs over a period of 9-12 months and provides support, guidance and challenge for participants while helping leaders to build, acquire and practice new leadership skills that lead to great impact and outcomes.

What is the MLDP?

The MLDP programme is a school-based leadership development programme for schools looking for whole-team leadership development.

Participants on the MLDP will receive a mixture of taught (online) CPD, leadership tasks and self-reflection discussions over a period of up to 12 months without the need to leave their school.

MLDP delivery alternates between taught CPD sessions and reflection sessions. Each taught session provides participants with a post-session task that is then reviewed during a the following reflection session.

The MLDP programme supports participants to drive strategic projects in their school and supports the planning, implementation and evaluation of these. This ensures that participants are able to put all learning points into practice and have real impact within their respective leadership areas.

Programme content

The MLDP programme includes a programme of taught CPD sessions including:

  • What Makes a Great Leader. Reflections and Examples;

  • Leading Others;

  • Planning an Improvement Project;

  • Implementing a Whole-School Project;

  • Monitoring and Reporting Impact;

  • Dealing with Conflict, Challenge and Difficult Conversations;

  • Evaluating Your Leadership Impact.

MLDP is very cost effective particularly for those schools with a large number of middle and emergent leaders requiring support with capacity for up to 25 leaders in any cohort.

How is MLDP delivered?

MLDP delivery alternates between taught online CPD sessions and personal reflection opportunities. Each taught session provides participants with a post-session task that is then reviewed during a the following reflection session.

The MLDP programme supports participants to drive strategic projects in their school and supports the planning, implementation and evaluation of these. Participants find that this is a really useful part of the course as they are able to put all learning points into practice and have real impact within their respective leadership areas.

As MLDP is a school-based group CPD programme cohorts can commence at the start of any term in the academic year.
