National Professional Qualification for Leading Behaviour and Culture (NPQLBC)

NPQLBC is one of a new series of specialist DfE NPQ programmes launching in September 2021.

By engaging in NPQLBC teachers can (over a period of 12 months), gain expertise in behaviour management and discover how to create a culture under which pupils and staff can reach their potential.

What is the NPQLBC?

Leading behaviour and culture is complex and professionals looking to lead in this area need to have expertise across a number of specialist areas related to their role (e.g. behaviour systems) and in approaches that, through working with their colleagues, enable their school to keep improving (e.g. professional development and implementation).

Leading culture and behaviour requires an understanding of the relationship between the different specialist areas, how they can change over time and how to contribute to a culture and conditions in which staff and pupils are able to thrive, all while maintaining the highest professional conduct as set out in the Teachers’ Standards.

NPQLBC gives candidates all of the essential knowledge, skills and concepts that underpin successful leadership of culture and behaviour with candidates learning how to:

  • Contribute to the creation of a culture of high expectations across the school;

  • Support the development of a positive, predictable and safe environment for pupils;

  • Support pupils who need more intensive support with their behaviour;

  • Align professional development priorities related to behaviour and culture with wider school improvement priorities.

Who is NPQLBC suitable for?

NPQLBC is for teachers with at least 2 years teaching experience. NPQLBC is for teachers who have, or are aspiring to have, responsibilities for leading behaviour and/or supporting pupil wellbeing in their school.

The fully blended learning approach combined with performance coaching and enrichment activities make this an exciting and valuable opportunity for those who have, or are aspiring to have, responsibilities for leading the development of other teachers in their school.

The NPQLBC qualification is aligned to Masters credits and can act as a springboard on to Liverpool Hope University’s MA in Leading in Education or the MBA in Educational Leadership.

Registration for the NPQLBC cohort due to commence in September 2022 will open shortly. If you are interested in joining the next cohort of NPQLTD please email mark@espeducation.co.uk to register interest.

“ESP's NPQs filled a gap in the market when no other provider did; we are very pleased that they have supported BSME's outcomes of high-quality professional learning which supports career progression at excellent rates.”

Olivia Roth, CEO BSME (British Schools in the Middle East)

How does it work?

There are two delivery options when taking the NPQLBC. Participants will usually complete the qualification within 12 months and undertake a summative assessment task at the end of this period.

Participants can choose to complete the programme via our traditional blended delivery model or via an online-only option. Our blended delivery model consists of 3 face-to-face events, online study, webinars and coaching. The online-only delivery option replaces the face-to-face events with facilitated webinars as well as extra tutor support making this programme accessible for all schools in the world, irrespective of location.

We run two intakes of NPQLBC each academic year with these cohorts commencing in the autumn and spring terms.

Alternatively, have you considered the NPQSL?
